Workshop: Nightshift by Drea Renee Knits

9:00 am – 12:00 pm Saturday: October 17th

Mosaic knitting is a fun, easy way to knit with two or more colors and achieve dramatic results without the stress of carrying two colors across a row. Each row of knitting is done with only one color at a time. The stitches in the second color are slipped without being knitted. Like magic, you have this intricate (looking) pattern without shedding any tears! You’ve most likely seen NightShift by Andrea Mowry grace the “what’s hot now” page on Ravelry since it came out in 2018. It is still one of the most compelling projects out there. This project checks all the boxes:
engaging project (watching the colors shift), larger needles (instant gratification), and a unique accessory (you knit that?!).

Pam Grushkin will teach you the techniques used in this pattern, including sideways shawl construction, mosaic knitting, I-cord edging, I-cord bind off, increasing, decreasing, slipping stitches, and changing colors.

To make the most of class time, please knit a swatch and discuss it with the teacher before class, so she can make needle adjustments as needed.

PatternNightshift by Drea Renee

Adventurous Advanced Beginner (and up) Skill Level: must be able to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, work basic stitch patterns with combinations of knits and purls, simple increases/decreases, and follow written instructions.

Supplies: 2 colors of Noro Ito (more contrast equals more dramatic results), Size US 9/5.5 mm (32”/80 cm circular needle, recommended), row counter, tapestry needle, and Nightshift pattern (available on Ravelry or from the shop).

**Homework: Cast on 20 sts and work 28 rows in stockinette stitch (k1 row, p 1 row), unblocked. When completed, it should measure 4”/10 cm.

While gauge is not critical in an accessory, this pattern uses ever bit of yardage allotted. If your gauge is not within keeping with the pattern, your yardage results will vary.

Taught by Pam Grushkin:  I love to share my passion for knitting and crochet through teaching and designing.  My designs have been published in Vogue Knitting, Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarn, One + One Hat, One + One Wraps, Cowls, & Capelets, Tahki Stacy Charles and independently as Pam Grushkin Designs. In 2004 I began to work at Knit Together in Stamford, CT.  It was there that I created Stitch and Chat. A class dedicated to supporting knitters and crocheters.  Since then I have built a rich curriculum of classes that range from beginner to intermediate.
