Workshop: Rift by Jacqueline Cieslak

9:00 am – 11:00 am Saturdays: September 26th, October 10th & 24th, November 14th

From the designer, Jacqueline Cieslak, “Rift cracks open all your assumptions about what a “basic tee” pattern should be. This lightweight, bottom-up knit includes instructions for two necklines, optional bust darts, and a custom fit bicep. The design features a slightly cropped body and a split high-low hem in
twisted rib, giving it enough detailing to be interesting while maintaining a timeless simplicity.” While timeless in its simplicity, there are many skills to learn! We will cover every technique and option this pattern has to offer. Learn how to pick the right size, the importance of a blocked swatch, German short rows, twisted stitches, picking up stitches, and the three-needle bind-off.

To make the most of class time, please knit a swatch and discuss with the teacher before class, so that she can make needle adjustments as needed.

Pattern: (Long Sleeve version) Rift by Jacqueline Cieslak

Adventurous Advanced Beginner (and up) Skill Level: must be able to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, work basic stitch patterns with combinations of knits and purls, simple increases/decreases, and follow written instructions.

Supplies: This cropped sweater is designed for a sport/dk weight cotton/wool or linen blend. This type of yarn can grow significantly in the blocking process and stretches a little with wear.

If you want to knit a long-sleeved sweater, add 15% to the yardage listed in the table below.
If you want to knit a longer sweater, add 30% to the yardage listed in the table below.

Notions: stitch markers, darning needle, extra needle in similar size or smaller than project needle for 3-needle
bind-off.

**Homework: With US #8 needles, cast on 24 sts and knit 20 rows in mock circular stockinette. The blocked swatch should measure 6” wide x 4” tall.

Taught by Pam Grushkin:  I love to share my passion for knitting and crochet through teaching and designing.  My designs have been published in Vogue Knitting, Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarn, One + One Hat, One + One Wraps, Cowls, & Capelets, Tahki Stacy Charles and independently as Pam Grushkin Designs. In 2004 I began to work at Knit Together in Stamford, CT.  It was there that I created Stitch and Chat. A class dedicated to supporting knitters and crocheters.  Since then I have built a rich curriculum of classes that range from beginner to intermediate.
